Press areaIreland’s only eco-friendly PC launchedIreland’s Top Business Site , www.BusinessWorld.ie October 25, 2006 Iameco, Ireland’s first line of environmentally-sound, high-performance personal computers, have been officially launched.
They are available at Micropro’s retail outlet in Dublin, at Cultivate in Temple Bar and on-line at iameco.com. The new range of PCs, designed and assembled in Ireland, are free of many of the harmful materials, such as brominated flame retardants, PVCs and heavy metals like lead, cadmium and mercury that have been regularly used in computer manufacture for years. "The demand for an environmentally friendly PC is strong, from within Ireland and throughout the world. We have strong environmental principles and we have founded this company to help make computer manufacture more sustainable and Ireland just a bit greener," said Paul Maher creator of the iameco line of computers. The computers are up to one third the size of standard computers and have been designed to last up to three times longer than traditional PCs, with fully upgradeable Intel motherboards. The use of solid woods, sourced from sustainable reserves around the world, means that iameco may soon become the only PC maker in the world to earn the EU’s coveted Eco-Label mark for high-quality consumer products that meet the highest environmental standards, the manufacturer said. |
